A portfolio of high-integrity impact investment vehicles for the Global South

Description

Sindri pursues a single question: what does it take for a community to reach the point where it no longer needs us? It is a hosted initiative inside Purpose Circle — not a separate legal entity — bringing together a portfolio of impact investment vehicles in development. All vehicles are still in development: five are in active design across two waves, with the remainder at earlier stages.

Goals

Wave 1 — active design: One Egg a Day (childhood nutrition).
Wave 2 — active design: Búi (coastal fisheries), Aftur (circular economy), Assistive Technology Fund, Inclusive Employment Fund.
Later waves: Women's Leadership, Livelihood, FinWell, Health Cross-Subsidy, AI AgriTech, Samband, Helix.

One Egg a Day
Wave 1
Childhood Nutrition SIV — Wave 1 (proof-of-concept)
A Social Impact Vehicle exploring egg consumption as a low-cost, high-leverage intervention against childhood stunting and anaemia. The vehicle is developing the evidence base, geographic targeting, behaviour-change approach, and unit economics required to test the model at community scale.
Priorities
- Strengthen the evidence base for egg consumption and childhood stunting/anaemia beyond the Lutter et al. (2018) RCT — including replication studies.
- Identify countries or regions combining high stunting prevalence (>25%), active community health worker networks, and reasonable poultry disease control environments, across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
- Map SBCC (Social and Behaviour Change Communication) models most effective for sustained dietary behaviour change at the household level in rural settings.
- Build the cost structure of comparable community poultry programmes — capital costs, operating costs, and revenue recovery timelines.
Búi
Wave 2
Coastal & Fisheries Fund — Wave 2 (active design)
A community-anchored fund supporting durable, locally-owned coastal and fisheries economies. Búi is investigating where the model best fits, how community ownership endures, and how blue carbon and premium-fish markets can be harnessed without displacing the communities they're meant to serve.
Priorities
- Identify which coastal geographies best fit the thesis (East Africa, Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, others) and characterise each.
- Map governance models that have proven most durable for community-owned fishing cooperatives in candidate geographies.
- Assess existing and in-development cold chain and market access infrastructure in shortlisted geographies.
- Compare operational blue carbon verification standards (Verra VCS, Plan Vivo, others) and identify those most appropriate for small-scale artisanal community projects.
- Identify anchor institutional buyers for certified, premium fish in target markets and the certifications they require.
- Surface the most material political risk factors (licensing, territorial rights, climate displacement) in each candidate geography.
Aftur
Wave 2
Circular Economy Fund — Wave 2 (active design)
A fund supporting circular SMEs and the repair economy in Global South cities. Aftur is mapping the urban conditions, financing gaps, and certification landscape needed to make circular enterprises investable at scale.
Priorities
- Identify urban settings in the Global South with the right combination of waste volumes, regulatory framing, and existing informal sector to support a circular economy fund.
- Catalogue repair economy and circular SME models piloted in shortlisted geographies and the financing gaps they face.
- Map environmental certification and labelling schemes that apply to circular economy enterprises in emerging markets.
Assistive Technology Fund
Wave 2
Wave 2 (active design)
A vehicle dedicated to closing the assistive technology gap in the Global South — combining market analysis, distribution-model research, and local manufacturing strategy to expand last-mile access.
Priorities
- Quantify the market gap for affordable assistive technology in the Global South, drawing on UNICEF, WHO, and academic estimates of unmet need.
- Identify regions combining the greatest unmet need with infrastructure to support local manufacturing, distribution, and service provision.
- Compare distribution models that have achieved meaningful last-mile AT access — social enterprise, NGO, government procurement, or hybrid.
- Determine which AT categories are most amenable to local manufacturing or assembly and the supply chain constraints that apply.
Inclusive Employment Fund
Wave 2
Wave 2 (active design)
A fund building employment and skills-development finance for marginalised groups — persons with disabilities, informal workers, returnees. Note: Samband is a separate vehicle in the Sindri portfolio (a Social Enterprise Portfolio at an earlier stage of development), not the Inclusive Employment Fund.
Priorities
- Identify where the combination of legal frameworks, employer readiness, and civil society infrastructure is most favourable for disability employment finance.
- Map employment and skills-development finance models that have successfully reached marginalised groups in the Global South.
- Catalogue active ILO, IFC, and bilateral donor programmes — and the gaps where philanthropic-programmatic capital could add value.
